Is Therapy Right for Me?

I believe that almost everyone can benefit from therapy at some point in their life. The benefits will be specific to what you want to address. Before starting therapy, consider asking yourself: Why am I considering therapy now? What do I hope to gain?

Therapy can help you know yourself better, improve relationships, or address specific issues. It’s a process that works best when you are actively engaged. It may bring up uncomfortable feelings and sometimes you might feel worse before feeling better. Your experience will be unique, but you won’t be alone. I am dedicated to guiding you through a process tailored to your needs.

If you have questions about whether therapy is right for you, please contact me. I would be happy to discuss your concerns.

How do I get started?

The first step is an initial consultation to determine if my skills and style meet your needs. Schedule a free 20-minute phone or video call with me. We'll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, fees, and scheduling. If you decide to proceed, I'll provide a link to a secure portal for electronically signing a consent form and reviewing practice policies. You'll also receive an appointment reminder and details on meeting logistics, whether in person or online.

What will a session be like?

Each session is tailored to your unique needs. My goal is to create a safe environment where you feel heard and understood. I will listen carefully to your reasons for seeking therapy without a pre-set agenda. Therapy is a dynamic process that evolves with you. Depending on your needs, I might suggest various approaches like talk therapy, art therapy, mindfulness, or a combination. Therapy is collaborative, and I will regularly check in with you to ensure you are getting the support you need.

How often will we meet?

I typically meet with individual clients once a week for 45 minutes.

Some clients prefer more frequent sessions, while others might taper to bi-weekly meetings after reaching many of their goals. If you are considering less frequent sessions to save money, I am happy to discuss considerations and alternative options.

Sessions are scheduled for the same day and time each week, providing a consistent and reliable space for your therapy.

What is your cancellation fee?

If you cancel a session with at least 24 hours' notice, no fee will be charged. If you need to reschedule within the same week and provide 24 hours' notice, I will work with you to find another available time, and no cancellation fee will be applied.

How long will I be in Therapy?

The duration of therapy varies for each individual. Factors include the issues you're addressing, your response to the work, and if new areas of focus emerge. Therapy often unfolds over time rather than following a linear path. Some clients may find what they need in a short period, while others may engage in a longer process to delve deeper. Many clients work with me consistently over extended periods. When it's mutually agreed upon to end regular sessions, clients often return for occasional "tune-ups." I am honored to remain a resource even after regular sessions conclude.

Am I the right therapist for you?

Research has consistently shown that the most important element of effective treatment is the therapeutic relationship. When you come to meet with me, it is crucial that you feel that I am someone you can work with. If not, I welcome you letting me know and will provide referrals for other therapists who might be a better fit.
