History and Development of Holistic Therapy

The concept of "holistic" healthcare traces back to Hippocrates over 2,500 years ago, who emphasized the importance of treating the whole person rather than focusing solely on specific symptoms. In the 20th century, healthcare became increasingly focused on medical interventions targeting isolated symptoms, treating mental and physical issues separately.

The shift towards holistic approaches gained momentum in the 1970s, as professionals recognized the limitations of symptom-focused care. The first national conference on holistic health in 1975 marked the beginning of a movement towards more integrated and alternative forms of healthcare.
